Confusion surrounds the role of the National Telecommunications Commission in licensing community radio and Internet protocol television (IPTV) under the new radio and television broadcasting law that becomes effective this month.
According to NTC vice-chairman Sethaporn Cusripituck, the law has a provisional clause that assigns the NTC to act as an interim commission until the new National Telecommunications and Broadcasting Commission (NTBC) is formed, to issue one-year licences to community radio operators and to television operators that do not use radio frequencies for broadcasting.
