The National Science and Technology Agency (NSTDA)
has launched the second phase of the Thailand Science Park, a two-billion
baht expansion that aims to attract companies with a research and
development (R&D) focus to occupy at least 50% of the project.
Officials hope companies will take up 40,000 square metres out of
the 72,000 sq m of new space at the site near the Thammasat University
Rangsit campus.
Construction is expected to start this month and to
be completed by 2010.
The first phase was planned to serve only government-related
research organisations, particularly the NSTDA and its affiliates
including Biotec, Nanotec, MTEC, Nectec and TMC. However, already
11,000 sq m of the first phase have been taken up by private companies
including Betagro and Siam Cement.
