Energy Labels for Data Centers and other buildings may soon arrive

The wheels of energy efficiency in the US continues to spin rapidly particularly since the new administration and the development of "The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009."

American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES) is a comprehensive approach to America's energy policy that charts a new course towards a clean energy economy.

The wheels for energy efficiency were already in motion to some degree during the Bush Administration. Most of us are aware of the study conducted on server and data center energy use conducted by the Department of Energy in 2007. It is this study that many point to as the beginning of the energy efficiency movement in data center environments.

Today, the energy efficiency movement appears to be in high gear. The EPA and Department of Energy’s Energy Star program is currently developing product specification for energy efficient enterprise servers. The Energy Star program has also announced that it will begin the same process for storage devices.
