Trends in Data Center Cabling

As with all data center technologies, telecommunications infrastructure continues to change rapidly. Some of the current major trends and developments are:

1. New U. S. and global data center telecommunications standards and greater adoption of standards by data center designers
2. Greater use of Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies
3. Continued development and usage of higher speed networking technologies
4. Much higher server densities and connectivity needs
5. Greater adoption of standards-based cabling for non-telecommunications applications such as building automation systems
6. Greater use of telecommunications and IT infrastructure deployment strategies to improve energy efficiency
7. Greater use of cabling administration and automation.

New standards for telecommunications infrastructure are being developed in the U.S. and worldwide.
