As with all data center technologies, telecommunications
infrastructure continues to change rapidly. Some of the current
major trends and developments are:
- New U. S. and global data center telecommunications standards
and greater adoption of standards by data center designers
- Greater use of Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies
- Continued development and usage of higher speed networking technologies
- Much higher server densities and connectivity needs
- Greater adoption of standards-based cabling for non-telecommunications
applications such as building automation systems
- Greater use of telecommunications and IT infrastructure deployment
strategies to improve energy efficiency
- Greater use of cabling administration and automation.
Standards
New standards for telecommunications infrastructure are being developed
in the U.S. and worldwide.
