- The winners of the Cheval Open Office and Gimp Competition were
recently announced with cash prizes and certificates awarded by
Khun Apichart Sajchawong, Cheval's Group Managing Director at respective
Cheval facilities participating in the program.
The contest resulted in some superior
and innovative work. "Some of the projects submitted show just how
advanced and flexible OpenOffice.org's Calc and Writer format is
as both a Word and Spreadsheet processor. The winning templates
and many others break a myth that OpenOffice cannot do advanced
editing functions like Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel. It is
obvious that OpenOffice has come of age and is more than just a
free alternative to MS Office but is an extremely worthy competitor"
said Mr Yuthasak Ariyakulnimit, Acting Manager, RD&D of Cheval Group.
The competition attracted unique
skills learned from using OpenOffice such as:
1. Spreadsheet calculations through
the use of OpenOffice Calc
2. Documents and word processing
through the use of OpenOffice Writer
3. Graphics designers and retouching
through Open Source Gimp
Winners for Open Office Calc/Write
and Open Source Gimp:
Ms. Panipak Panyakab, OpenOffice
Writer
Ms. Taweenan Chaijarean, OpenOffice

Ms. Jintana Wungmai, OpenOffice Writer
Ms. Lada Noichoosakul, OpenOffice

Ms. Thanyaporn Rattano, Open Source

Mr. Naret Rata, OpenOffice Calc

One of the prizes went to the customer
service template for OpenOffice Calc designed by Ms. Lada Noichoosakul
- for the overall detail, comprehensiveness, complexity, presentation,
and use of different elements and functions. The entry, which included
graphical and calculation elements plus hyperlink organization,
also added mail function, was exceptional. The implementation and
potential use of Ms. Lada's template was excellent. Another prize
was won by Ms. Thanyaporn Rattano's for her collage of HM the King
made advanced use of Open Source Gimp in developing the poster.
Cheval ran this competition in conjunction
with OpenSource2Day magazine and has committed to a second competition
in early 2008. "We want to keep adding popularity to OpenOffice
and the open source community. Cheval is committed to the use of
OpenOffice and open source projects". said Khun Yuthasak. The templates
of the projects will soon posted on the chevalgrp.com website.
